itSMF communications

I wrote recently about how broken itSMF International is. Nothing personifies this so well as the total collapse of itSMF's communications to members and the public.

Cases in point:

  • The itSMFI website is at least being kept up to date with news, so the administrative function still works. But clearly nobody is feeding them real information about itSMF.
  • Oddly the homepage news no longer pages, so you can't see news before January 2014. Promises lost...
  • the information about the Board elections was very slow. the white smoke finally went up on February 20th
  • I'm concerned to note that the Board is now making use of Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs - no apostrophe) to muzzle discussion of what's going on in itSMF. Not that we ever heard much anyway but this is hardly a positive step for transparency and governance
  • The only one telling is what is going on is Peter Brooks and I doubt the itSMF are wild about that
  • The static Board information is always out of date. E.g apparently Colin Rudd isn't on the Board after all
  • If you think that's bad, click on "Forum" on the homepage. The domain registration for the itSMF Forum has lapsed. This follows on from the loss of itSMF.org.
  • Remember the "quarterly" journal of itSMF International? the last one was October 2012
  • Once upon a time there were annual Chairperson's reports
  • And some of us are old enough to remember the last published Annual Report and accounts

Now itSMF International are launching a raft of committees for yet another bloody "strategic review". Gang, the Titanic's deck-chairs can wait.

Ask yourself, what has itSMF International done for you lately? Or even in the last few years?

When the horse is dead, dismount.
