ITIL started out as just the books, but it is much more today: it is a movement, a professional group, and an industry. A great deal of activity goes on in promotion and support of ITIL worldwide. Much of it is ungoverned and ad-hoc. There are many pillars of the house of ITIL and OGC governs and manages only four.

How is ITIL Live doing?

I wonder how the ITIL Live website is doing. And where they get their customers from.

ITIL V3 Foundations effectively put on hold until May 2009?

While the IT Skeptic has been off playing with idle fripperies like Second Life, all sorts of exciting things have been happening quietly behind the scenes in Castle ITIL. It is time we caught up to date with developments. In particular, I wouldn't be doing ITIL V3 Foundation training right now.

A reader, Eppo Luppes, asks the question "Give three reasons/statements why ITIL V3 is an improvement over V2 and also three reasons why it is NOT". Most readers can guess my three (which I may give later). What do you think?

What's wrong with multichoice exams for ITIL V3?

APMG and the ITIL Qualifications Board are insisting on using multi-choice exams to certify ITIL V3 competence for Intermediate and Expert level qualifications. We have discussed this already across the blog but allow me to summarise the arguments against it here.

Call of a crow!!* What is going on in Castle ITIL? Is there a battle royal between vendor factions? The whole V3 Certification thing is lurching around like a pantomime donkey where the front guy has flatulence. e-learning is now in the syllabus (I am told but cannot confirm that it was not explicitly specified previously). This leads to a dire prediction for ATOs if Castle ITIL decides to cut out the middleman...

ITIL V3 love takes time

The IT Skeptic is not anti-ITIL V3. ITSM View suggests "There are plenty out there that are seemingly wanting to derail ITIL v3". I'm not one of them. Nor can I think of anyone who is. That blog post has the heading "Where is the love?". Let us not confuse reluctance to leap immediately into bed with active animosity.

Once upon a time IT Service Management was a movement dedicated to improving the levels of service delivered by IT. And ITIL was a body of knowledge put together by the government as a public service and released into the public domain. The books weren't free simply because costs had to be covered.

Now it is turning into just another snake oil peddled by shiny suits.
